More Bloggers Arrested

ArsTechnica reports that “last year saw a tripling in the number of bloggers arrested around the world compared to 2006, according to a report from the University of Washington.” The trends are quite disturbing. Blogs represent a mechanism for people to spread information quickly and easily, and without going through tightly-controlled channels like big newspapers. Apparently, even “France, Canada, the USA, and UK have all arrested people following their blogging activity since 2004.” And Google and Yahoo “have handed over details of bloggers to the Chinese government, despite publicly condemning such policies.”

But, on the bright side, at least we bloggers now have proof that someone is reading our work.
