Voluntary Agreement on Electronic Health Records

The Washington Post reports on a voluntary agreement between Microsoft, Google, WebMD, the Consumers’ Union, and others regarding electronic health record privacy. Fear of regulation and lawsuits had been causing massive delays in getting health records online - a step that’s vital to cut health care costs and improve patient care. This voluntary agreement should preclude any need for state action; let’s hope the government stays out.
