Viacom has just agreed to let Google anonymize the data it will be handing over to Viacom as part of the copyright infringement lawsuit against YouTube. Viacom decided that it did not really need personally-identifiable information, such as individual YouTube viewing histories, to prove its case. This settlement should at least partially quell privacy concerns and get Google out of its double-bind.
