Cable companies are fighting the impending FCC ruling against Comcast for violating net neutrality principles. They seek the freedom to try out different network management practices to ensure that their networks don’t get overclogged by a few zealous P2P users.
At a meeting with FCC commissioners, Michael Schooler, Vice President of the National Cable and Television Association, and Michael Willner, CEO of Insight, tried to head off Charman Martin’s attack. They argued that “regulatory efforts to restrict or predetermine the tools and technology to be used for network management would thwart investment in network upgrades, slow the rate of growth of high-speed Internet customers, and seriously disrupt and degrade the value of the Internet for all users.”
