MIT Students Gagged from Discussing Hack

It’s not just their looser drug and prostitution laws. The Dutch are also ahead of the US in some free speech areas. Last month, I reported that a Dutch court ruled that a group of hackers could publish details about how they hacked into an RFID smartcard system. But today, a US district judge slapped a restraining order on a group of MIT researchers that intended to present how they cracked the MBTA’s CharlieCard system.

EFF defended the students. For more information about the case, check out the organization’s website and the discussion on Volokh.
