Immigration Law Dysfunctional, Arbitrary

American immigration law is perversebaffling, and dysfunctional.  It keeps out energetic legal immigrants who could make America richer and smarter, while encouraging unskilled illegal immigrants to come here in hopes of receiving an amnesty motivated by liberal ethnic and ideological politics.  Here’s a diagram showing just how convoluted the standard path to legal immigration is.
