The Religious Left seeks to impose its authoritarian social agenda through lawsuits and other means. They love speech codes, despite the fact that they are often utterly uncivil. The most sanctimonious and insufferable people I have ever met in my life were students and faculty at Harvard Divinity School, whom I had the misfortune of meeting during my studies at Harvard Law School.
One divinity professor at Harvard, a devotee of feminist theological studies, was fond of saying in and out of class that the proper role of men in religion should be to “shut up for a milennium,” to offset milennia of “patriarchal” religion.
The pompous left-wing clergy and theology professors who participate in the Newsweek/Washington Post forum “On Faith“ share a similarly intolerant ideological bent, although they insult not only men, but also women, claiming that conservative women like Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are guilty of “hypocrisy” simply for considering themselves to be “women,” when their politics are not liberal. (Ironically, at Harvard, the most liberal female students didn’t claim to be “women,” but rather “womyn” or “wimyn,” erroneously viewing the word “women” as being of patriarchal origin).
Harvard Divinity School students made my classmates at Harvard Law School, themselves a fractious and often dogmatically left-wing lot, look like a model of open-mindedness and civility by comparison. Apparently, things aren’t much better at the University of Chicago, home to wackos like Wendy Doniger.
I’ve often taken positions that are at odds with the Religious Right. But compared to the Religious Left, the Religious Right is tolerant, easy-going, and sensible.

What does the religious left want from citizens? They apparently haven't any notion of what is in the Bible at all. They are intolerant and just plain evil. Wake up America!
i hate it when the lefty looneey libral speaks. they sound like hipocrats or ignorant dilousional morons. always…………
Amen.
In Mizz Doniger's latest missive, she justifies abortion by saying it's in the “mother-lovin' Constitution”. Really? Her many qualifications now apparently includes Constitutional scholar.
I've done some research, while trying to think like a religious lefty. I believe I can clarify Mizz Doniger's claim. A fetus is a soldier and a womb is a house. Thus, the Third Amendment prohibits the quartering of said soldier in said house without the consent of the house's owner.
Either that, or she believes the fetus is conducting an unreasonable search and seizure.

I agree wholeheartedly!
Amen. Check out Vanderbilt Divinity School. I don't know how many of their grads or attendees are currently in our Tennessee state government at this moment—and at very high levels.
Without attending and understanding what they are teaching, I have to wonder if they are teaching Christ as an idea instead of as a redeemer. By that I mean, they are so hungry to use government to realize their ideas of charity. Of course it isn't charity if it's mandated, but that's irrelevant to their own zealotry.
If I'm not mistaken, Al Gore attended Vanderbilt Divinity School for a short time as well.
Well we all know that liberalism (aka socialism) is a mental disorder. Cheers.
Why should we even care what these people think? The liberal churches are literally dying out at a rate that will put them at zero within 15-20 years. The average age of their membership is about 60 years of age. They have no way of recruiting new members. They are are going the way of the dinosaur.
At the same time evangelical churches are growing at a rate of close to 5%. If you leave the USA and go to Latin America, Africa or Asia the percentage grows. I look forward to 20 years in the future when the only place you will see liberal theologians is in some wax museum where some old timer says “I remember hearing about these guys years ago!”
I'd say you BOTH need an attitude ajustment! Not very pleasant when the shoe is on the other club-foot, is it??? Karma baby, karma. LMAO!
Well, I'd rather be mental than retarded like the Repubs.
and people wonder why the mainline churches are losing people. it is not that 'we' lack programs — it is that we lack people with the knowledge of the Truth, and the ability and willingness to speak that Truth.
just found the 'soldier in the house' comment from wag the dog — way cool, I will remember that one. well done.
I've heard that “Christian” does not mean perfect; it means “saved”. No doubt, there are going to be human failures among Christians just as one would expect of any other group. The most altruistic organizations created by mankind have occasional rogues. This should not discredit the organization.
Having said that, it seems to me that the Religious Right has always had at it's core a single set of rules that have been passed along through the centuries. They view with great suspicion anything that adds to or distracts from the core, traditional message. Some of the adherents are fervent, some are extreme. The majority are content with just seeing how they can live the message as their lives are busy enough.
The Religious Left seems to have a need to change or expand on the meaning of the core rules to include behaviours and philosophies that are intellectually or politically popular at the time or at their location. After learning the core message, it seems that their extra time is used to address the injustices or omissions that they perceive in the traditional view. Their defense of their new philosophies requires power that can only be granted and exercised in the academic environment.
Am I wrong? I'd like to hear thoughtful challenges.
Why right or left? Religion is about faith in God isn't it? Did we not take steps to separate Church and State? Look at what is happening to people in other parts of the world whose governments are ensnared in a tangled mess with no hope in sight of ever sorting it out. Government and politics as for all, choice of religion is for the individual. Let's try hard to remember that.
I'll take a note on this.
oh… the wacko Wendy hehe
you've right i dont like when a country mix their politics with religion, just like my country!.
